			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>In &#8216;Uitblinkers&#8217; staan succesvolle mensen centraal. We horen graag verhalen van mensen die het gemaakt hebben. Vooral mensen die zichzelf tot de top hebben opgewerkt, &#8216;vanuit het niets&#8217;, zonder bijvoorbeeld de hulp van rijke ouders. Malcolm Gladwell bewijst in &#8216;Uitblinkers&#8217; dat deze succesvolle mensen wel degelijk geprofiteerd hebben van de kansen die hun als het ware voor de voeten zijn geworpen. &#8216;Vanuit het niets&#8217; bestaat dus niet. Er zijn aanwijzingen te vinden in de achtergrond, tijdperk van geboorte, ras van de succesvolle persoon die het succes verklaren.</strong></p>
<p>Malcolm Gladwell schrijft zijn boeken volgens een vaste formule. Hij poneert een stelling en bouwt vervolgens de bewijsvoering op aan de hand van anekdotes en wetenschappelijk onderzoek. De keuze van de stelling en de voorbeelden is zo, dat Gladwell de lezer onverwachte resultaten laat zien of op het verkeerde been zet. Het liefst toont hij aan dat de wereld heel anders in elkaar zit dan we denken. Bovenal is Gladwell een echte verhalenverteller, die de lezer van begin tot eind met zijn verhalen weet te boeien.</p>
<p>In &#8216;Uitblinkers&#8217; neemt hij ons mee langs de ijshockeyvelden van Canada, daar waar het een voordeel blijkt te zijn als je net na 1 januari bent geboren. We lezen hoe Bill Gates al vanaf 1968 vele uren achter de computer op school te vinden is. Op het moment dat de personal computer doorbreekt (1975), heeft Gates al zoveel programmeervaardigheden opgebouwd, dat hij een voorsprong heeft op iedereen die zich dan op computers stort. Het is geen toeval dat de oprichters van Microsoft, Apple en Sun allemaal rond hetzelfde jaar zijn geboren (1955).</p>
<p>Maar slim zijn is niet genoeg om succesvol te worden, beweert Gladwell. Een hoog IQ helpt tot op zekere hoogte in het krijgen van betere banen. Nog meer speelt de economische achtergrond van het gezin een rol. Kinderen uit de beter gesitueerde gezinnen krijgen meer &#8216;praktische intelligentie&#8217; mee. Daarmee leren ze wat ze tegen wie moeten zeggen, wanneer en hoe ze het zo effectief mogelijk kunnen brengen. Deze praktische intelligentie helpt hen in het regelen van de betere banen.</p>
<p>Daarnaast geldt volgens Gladwell de tienduizend-urenregel. Mensen aan de top hebben niet alleen talent, ze hebben ook nog eens heel hard gewerkt om boven de rest uit te stijgen. Onderzoek heeft uitgewezen dat ze globaal tienduizend uur hebben gewerkt om dit niveau te bereiken. Zo hebben de Beatles voor ze beroemd werden in Hamburg elke avond kunnen optreden. In het begin waren ze helemaal niet zo bijzonder goed. Maar door de vele optredens leerden ze goed op elkaar inspelen en konden ze boven andere muziekbands uitstijgen.</p>
<p>Met &#8216;Uitblinkers&#8217; laat Gladwell zien dat we te veel in talent geloven en daardoor te weinig naar andere factoren kijken die het succes van iemand bepalen. Kunt u als lezer iets met dit boek, afgezien van het leesplezier dat u er aan beleeft? Het is voor de meeste lezers te laat om nog tienduizend uur in een vaardigheid te steken. De boodschap en &#8216;bewijzen&#8217; in &#8216;Uitblinkers&#8217; overtuigen mij minder dan zijn eerdere boeken. Gladwell presenteert het vraagstuk rondom talenten en succes op een wel heel vereenvoudigde manier. In mijn optiek is het een oversimplificatie van een complexe vraag.</p>
<p>Bovendien ben ik aan het eind van het boek de draad in de bewijsvoering wat kwijt. De laatste hoofdstukken gaan in het bijzonder over cultuurverschillen, een vaak terugkerend thema in Gladwell&#8217;s boeken. De epiloog behandelt het verhaal van Gladwell&#8217;s Jamaicaanse grootmoeder, die geprofiteerd heeft van gunstige omstandigheden om een goede opleiding te krijgen. Dat ze een opmerkelijke vrouw is, geloof ik graag, maar een uitblinker? Deze minpuntjes nemen niet weg dat het met Gladwell&#8217;s vlotgeschreven tekst goed toeven is.</p>

<p>As the economy continues to weaken it&#8217;s becoming ever more-apparent to me  that we sales people (and business owners) need to team up. In my opinion, it&#8217;s  possible a lot of us will lose our jobs, or our businesses, in this storm, if we  don&#8217;t get support from each other.</p>
<p>As we all probably know, the quickest way to make new sales is through  existing relationships. As buyers become scarcer in this weak economy, many of  us need to think about getting sales quickly to make sure <em>there will be a  long-term</em> for our job or business. Accessing already existing relationships  is the quickest strategy to do this. But there&#8217;s a catch: many of us have  already maxed-out our own existing relationships. So what next? How about  teaming up?</p>
<p>“I&#8217;ll show you my contacts if you show me yours”.</p>
<p>If you can use your existing relationships to get me access to a new account,  then I am happy to return the favor. And we don&#8217;t have to limit this arrangement  to the two of us do we? We can build our own <em>team</em> of sales people who  pass referrals between all of us.</p>
<p>OK so that&#8217;s not rocket science. But sales people seem to be bad at this.  Most sales people are out there operating as lone wolves. This may work well  during good times but as times get tough we wolves may need to band together to  survive.</p>
<p>All of this may be ringing bells in your head about social networks and  indeed these do have a good part to play in this &#8220;teaming up&#8221;. But we don&#8217;t need  to limit our interactions to online relationships. Sharing referrals is going  necessitate that we establish a decent amount of trust between us. Most likely I  will want to meet you in-person (or over the phone at least) before I introduce  you to any of my personal contacts.</p>
<p>Starting online then moving offline is a good strategy. <p><strong>Ondernemingen gebruiken software voor enterprise resource planning (erp) om overzicht te krijgen over hun bedrijfsmiddelen. Analytische en voorspellende toepassingen hebben vaak het erp-systeem als bron om de efficiëntie van organisaties te vergroten.</strong></p>
<h3>Wat is dat?<a name="2782739"></a></h3>
<p><!-- Tekst -->Ondernemingen gebruiken software voor <a href="http://www.computable.nl/content/keyword/2379708/2468820/enterprise.html">enterprise</a> resource <a href="http://www.computable.nl/content/keyword/2379817/2468820/planning.html">planning</a> (erp) om overzicht te krijgen over hun bedrijfsmiddelen. Met een erp-systeem kan één geïntegreerde bedrijfsadministratie worden opgezet die logistieke en productieprocessen koppelt aan de administratieve afwikkeling ervan. Van oudsher gebruiken multinationals de software omdat het een toepassing is die in alle vestigingen wereldwijd kan worden ingevoerd. Ook de rijksoverheid en andere (semi-)publieke sectoren zetten erp-systemen in.</p>
<p>De laatste jaren speelt business intelligence (bi) een steeds grotere rol binnen erp. Analytische en voorspellende toepassingen hebben vaak het erp-systeem als bron en moeten de efficiëntie en concurrentiekracht van organisaties vergroten door verbanden te leggen tussen behaalde resultaten en het stellen van een toekomstanalyse.</p>
<h3>Wat zijn de trends?<a name="2782741"></a></h3>
<p><!-- Tekst -->Business intelligence (bi) als vast onderdeel van bedrijfssoftwarepaketten. Grote leveranciers zoals Microsoft, IBM, SAP en Oracle hebben leidende bi-spelers overgenomen en bepalen de huidige bi-markt. Bi wordt toegevoegd aan de bedrijfssoftwarepakketten voor bijvoorbeeld erp (enterprise resource planning) en crm (costumer relationship management) en is niet langer een op zichzelf staande activiteit.</p>
<p>Kosten. Door de economische situatie ontstaat bij veel organisaties toenemende aandacht voor lagere kosten. Iedereen moet evenveel of meer doen met minder geld. &#8220;Er zal komend jaar meer aandacht zijn voor slimme rapportages en minder aandacht voor architectuurprojecten, zoals grote nieuwe datawarehouses. Ook binnen het midden- en kleinbedrijf wordt nu de strijd aangegaan met Excel&#8221;, stelt Jaco Geluk van E-mergo. Hij ziet dat bi-leveranciers zich steeds meer richten op deze markt door relatief betaalbare oplossingen aan te bieden. Daarbij moeten gegevens uit verschillende systemen zonder veel ontwikkelwerk gecombineerd kunnen worden.</p>
<p>&#8220;We gaan van tool- en technologiegedreven bi naar het organiseren van bi. Bedrijven hebben veel geld geïnvesteerd in tools en -technologie. Dat heeft minder zichtbare toegevoegde waarde opgeleverd dan men had gehoopt. Inmiddels is de focus verschoven naar het organiseren van al deze losse stukjes bi. <h3>Welke oplossingen zijn er?<a name="2782743"></a></h3>
<p><!-- Tekst -->&#8220;De Google-interface zal steeds meer de standaard bi-gebruikersinterface worden. Enterprise Search oplossingen worden daarbij gebruikt om een simpele, Google-achtige interface te definiëren voor het ontsluiten van zowel bi-rapportages als ongestructureerde gegevens.&#8221; (Mathijs Kreugel Directeur VLC Projects)</p>
<p>Datavisualisatie. Paul van der Linden, IBM: &#8220;De enorme groei in beschikbare data maakt het moeilijk om in één oogopslag te zien wat er aan de hand is. Datavisualisatie zorgt ervoor dat sneller inzicht wordt verkregen in de beschikbare data. Het gaat daarbij om eenvoudig te bedienen en krachtige bi-software, die zo intuïtief is dat gebruikers ze met weinig of geen training kunnen bedienen.&#8221;</p>
<p>Data Vault. Volgens Remco Broekmans, bi-consultant en trainer bij BI-Expertisehuis Centennium, wordt door de huidige kredietcrisis steeds meer belang gehecht aan wet- en regelgeving. Broekmans: &#8220;Data Vault is een techniek om binnen heel grote datawarehouses alle data vanuit de bronsystemen zoals erp binnen te halen met behoud van alle kenmerken vanuit die bronnen (metagegevens). Herkomst van data is ten alle tijden te herleiden.&#8221;</p>
<p>Realtime. De  integratie van bi in alles wat we doen zorgt ervoor dat er steeds meer data komt en dat we die sneller (liefst realtime) nodig hebben. Bi-analyses werden in het verleden vaak gemaakt door terug te kijken. Bi wordt nu steeds vaker ingezet als toekomstvoorspeller. Maar er is juist ook behoefte aan real-time informatie. Om betere beslissingen te nemen moeten analyses gemaakt worden van gegevens die realtime beschikbaar zijn.</p>
